Message All it takes is a little reality check, like most said of a daily driver to make you appreciate a Z all over again...

I drive a '97 Maxima that has a check engine light on and tends to be sluggish (its probably a bad knock sensor, or a dead o2, but I'm getting good gas mileage, so I'm leaning towards the knock sensor, which is known to go on Maximas). I had started to think it was pretty "peppy" by most standards... until I drove a few customers TTs the last couple weekends... just mildly modded... probably StageIII range... but the last one was silky smooth, and I was breaking in a clutch, so I was driving with light to moderate throttle, low to moderate boost, and sub 4krpm, and it still felt wicked fast... and that was just with eBay DPs and Cats still installed... made me really miss my old TT... sniff... =(

But I do remember how "slow" she started to feel after a while when I was driving it daily... I was a boostaholic when I had her... boosted every chance I got, even if it was a 50 foot run to the next car, I'd get on it a little... =)

But I do have to say, the first time I drove a customers car with GT28RS turbos on it, it was wicked fast by all comparisons to anything else I'd ever driven... and that was with great DPs and even more crappy exhaust, so I know the car was being hindered, and it was still crazy fast, even on breakin conditions!

There is always another level of modifications you can take a Z to... its all about intelligent levels of mods...

Like the last car I worked on, the owner told me to put the cats back, despite having Test Pipes in the trunk... which I thought was weird... but whatever, his car... until I spoke with him when he picked it up... since they were easy to swap at a later date, he wanted to feel the power increase in stages... his Z is a weekender, and he daily drives a lightly modded WRX wagon... he'd also gone from a 2+2 NA to a TT of the same year that had already been modded slightly (intake, ECU, crap exhaust though, but full mild suspension upgrades). First weekend I saw it I just diagnosed it, installed boost jets for him, and helped him swap out the Midas exhaust for a Stillen one... and he was pleased with the performance increase... next weekend I installed a new clutch, flywheel, and downpipes for him, and the increase was equally impressive! Driving his Z definitely makes me pine for one even more... I love my new 260Z, and I don't intend to sell it, but I definitely want another TT one day! =)
